Erik Sumo

Erik Sumo, a.k.a Ambrus Tövisházi.
The Budapest based producer and singer/songwriter plays in different bands and releases under different pseudonyms. In his home country he is most famous for the weird eclectic pop band called “Amorf Ördögök”, in which he plays the Keyboard. He has also worked as a DJ on Budapest’s legendary Tilos Radio, a group he is not part of anymore. Ambrus contributes to soundtracks for both, experimental cinema (at the moment he is composing the soundtrack for a christmas movie by Peter Gardos entitled “The Real Santa”) and TV-shows (the NBC used a remix of Amorf Ördögök’s “Tündérdomb” for their action series “Las Vegas”). The most internationally famous of Ambrus’ pseudonyms is “Erik Sumo”, under which he released 12’’ on “Pulver Records”. His 2002 release “Just a Woman” was a laid back house-tune. A lot of time in which the fans surely got nervous passed since than, but finally the waiting is over and Erik Sumo returns to Pulver with a band and a blast.

Cold War Kids- Loyalty to Loyalty

Here are some of my favorites off of Cold War Kid's Second LP: Loyalty to Loyalty. I'm including my all time favorite from the ablum, "Something is not right with me" even though I've already posted it- I like it that much. The singer reminds me of Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon if that makes sense.

Solar Powered Blinds that light your room

A Venetian blind made from flexible solar cells can light up a room without a power supply.

The Blight blinds were designed by Vincent Gerkens, who says that because people adjust Venetian blinds throughout the day to maximise the amount of sunlight they block out, his design catches much of the available sunlight.

When darkness falls, energy collected in a battery is used to power an electroluminescent foil built into the blinds, which lights the room.

THRU-YOU - Dope beats album mixed from YouTube videos

Some dude named Kutiman took an obscene amount of YouTube videos and created a sick album of beats, rhymes and other cool sounds solely from random YouTube postings. This is the new age of sampling everyone. Make sure you take a look at this as soon as you can!

http://www.thru-you.com/

You can sit and watch all the different clips (very good time) or just put it on in the background while working (as good a time as listening to any Fatboy Slim or DJ Shadow tunes)

Mad Decent #30: 'Bounce It'

From Mad Decent World Wide Radio:

Link: Mad Decent Worldwide Radio #30 - Emynd ‘BOUNCE IT’ (mp3)

For those unfamiliar with Bounce, it is a fairly unique strain of club-oriented hip-hop that originated in New Orleans sometime around 1991 with MC TT Tucker's "Where Dey At." Almost 20 years later, Bounce still dominates the urban club and block party scene in New Orleans with very little major label backing.

Tracklisting:
1. Intro
2. DJ Jubilee "Get Ready, Ready!" (1997)
3. Chev "Picture This" (2004)
4. 5th Ward Weebie "5th Ward Weebie Part 3" (2003)

Heartless Bastards

This is one of my new favorite groups. The lead singer, Erika Wennerstrom, is amazing. She sounds exactly the same live as she does on the cd. Not many singers can say that, and with the voice she has it's twice as impressive. They're a garage band from Dayton, Ohio on Fat Possum Records.

Here's a live show performance of Runnin', off of their first album, Stairs and Elevators.

Here's the title track to their second album, All This Time. It's the only real video that I've been able to find. I'm not the biggest fan of the video but the song is so good.

I saw them live a month ago when they released their 3rd album, The Mountain. It's a good album, but I'm more partial to their first two. They're a little more punk on their first two albums which I like more. Here's the mp3 of the title track off the new album.

Siftables: Toy Blocks that Think

Wait until you're about 5 minutes in until they demo the music application.
You can assign sounds to each tiles and arrange them into a sequence. Tilting the tiles can fade the sounds in and out. It's cool.

About this talk:
MIT grad student David Merrill demos Siftables -- cookie-sized, computerized tiles you can stack and shuffle in your hands. These future-toys can do math, play music, and talk to their friends, too. Is this the next thing in hands-on learning?
